American Horror Story: Freak Show – Season 4, Episode 12: “Showstoppers”

Tonight we bid farewell to the best season of American Horror Story to date. I am both curious and excited to learn how this storyline will be resolved, but I am also sad to see it all come to a close. With this potentially being Jessica Lange’s last season (again), I can only hope that she is given a proper sendoff. American Horror Story: Freak Show – Season 4, Episode 10: “Orphans”

The most horrifying aspect of American Horror Story: Asylum, for me, was Pepper. She terrified me from the moment I saw her, and even more so when the reason behind her commitment was revealed. In spite of seeming harmless and sweet-tempered in Freak Show, I just couldn’t get over the whole baby-drowning thing – I literally thought about it any time that Pepper had a scene. And then American Horror Story did that amazing thing they do where they make you feel guilty for despising a character under false pretenses. I hate when they do that. But I love it, too. American Horror Story: Freak Show – Season 4, Episode 8: “Bloodbath”

Dandy Mott: Beyond the Tighty Whities

This is a much delayed and unfortunately brief discussion of last week’s episode; I apologize for both my brevity and my lack of punctuality here. Nevertheless, “Bloodbath” marks an important step for Dandy in terms of the duality of his personality. Continue reading “American Horror Story: Freak Show – Season 4, Episode 8: “Bloodbath””

American Horror Story: Freak Show – Season 4, Episode 7: “Test of Strength”

“Test of Strength” is mainly set-up for the next episode, along with some bad karaoke for good measure. I love Evan Peters as much as the next girl, but I did not need to witness his dismal Kurt Cobain impersonation. As much as I like this season, I could really do without the musical interludes. American Horror Story, Freak Show – Season 4, Episode 5: “Pink Cupcakes”

Tighty Whities and the Duality of Dandy Mott

As per usual, there is no shortage of bothersome scenes in “Pink Cupcakes,” but it is Dandy’s antics that truly take the cake – or the cupcake, if you will. In spite of his many memorable moments, one cannot help but take note of Dandy’s prolonged, underwear-clad daily routine. Attention is intentionally drawn to the awkward undergarments, and the tighty whities speak volumes regarding Dandy’s demented personality. American Horror Story, Freak Show – S4, E4: “Edward Mordrake: Part 2”

When I was about five years old, I was absolutely terrified of a picture book of dinosaurs. Each night, I would hurl it into my closet and slam the door, only to lay awake waiting for an Allosaurus to emerge from the closet and rip me limp from limb. I have recently been experiencing a similar fear, but it is no longer dinosaurs that keep me up at night – it’s Twisty the clown. I will not watch American Horror Story as it airs because Twisty disturbs me so. This week, I am particularly glad that I waited until the light of day to watch. American Horror Story, Freakshow – S4, E3: “Edward Mordrake”

Both Elsa’s Freakshow and the American Morbidity Museum are losing business because people would rather stay in and watch television. Ironically, I would far rather watch Freakshow from the comfort of my couch than go out into the world to seek actual entertainment. So, while I’m sitting here thinking about the sad plight of the freaks and their suffering business, I myself am contributing to that very problem. Touché, Ryan Murphy, touché.
