The best thing to come out of “Too Far Gone” is the fact that there can never again be a battle for the prison. Never!! Bwahahahaha. I don’t know what the writers will do when it comes to the season finale, or all further midseason finales, but they are going to have to put on their thinking caps and come up with something new. The prison is destroyed. The Governor is dead. One-leg Hershel is now no-head, one-leg Hershel. It was refreshing to see so much action, and even more refreshing that the plot will now have to extend beyond the prison walls.
Otherwise, there really isn’t that much to say here. The Governor had to die eventually. Team Rick had to leave the prison eventually. The Governor couldn’t keep up the Brian Herriot act forever, and his true nature showed itself with a vengeance, ultimately leading to his drawn-out demise.
I will say that I am actually looking forward to the next episode, which is more than I can say for the rest of the season up until this point. It figures that the one episode I actually want to see is one I will have to wait for, so I’ll give the writers credit there.
This is completely incoherent and rambling, and I apologize. At this point, though, what can I say that I haven’t said before? One somewhat acceptable episode doesn’t rectify an entire season of subpar soap opera-esque plotlines. I am hopeful, but I’ve been hopeful before, and I’ve consistently been let down.
A final thought – Daryl throwing that grenade in the tank was awesome.
